Microbiome Research Scientist
(Pune Site - Venture Center)
About Proxi Farma
At Proxi Farma, we translate gut microbiome science into nutrition that heals, sustains, and transforms. Our work blends clinical, ex vivo, and data-driven research on plant-based fibers and microbial metabolism — bringing real science to everyday health.
Purpose
This role sits at the intersection of microbiology, nutrition, and data science.
You will lead and execute ex vivo microbiome studies, support ongoing clinical collaborations, and interpret multi-omics data to reveal how food transforms health from within.
Your results will not just be published — they will be packaged, consumed, and felt.
Key Responsibilities
1. Experimental Design and Execution
• Design and perform ex vivo stool fermentation studies with plant-fiber formulations.
• Quantify short-chain fatty acids and microbial metabolites using GC, LC, or MS platforms.
• Develop, validate, and maintain GLP-compliant SOPs and maintain detailed lab documentation.
• Manage lab operations, sample tracking, and QA records for all experiments.
2. Clinical Research Integration
• Collaborate with clinicians and the clinical research team for sample collection and handling.
• Ensure proper biospecimen chain-of-custody and sample storage integrity.
• Participate in IRB and regulatory documentation under ICMR and ICH-GCP standards.
3. Data Analysis and Insight Generation
• Process 16S or shotgun metagenomic data using standard bioinformatics pipelines.
• Integrate metabolite and microbial data with clinical metadata to identify key mechanisms.
• Conduct statistical analyses in R, Python, or equivalent software and generate visual insights.
• Prepare technical reports, internal summaries, and contributions to manuscripts.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Work closely with nutrition scientists, clinicians, and product development teams.
• Support research design, protocol optimization, and data interpretation.
• Present findings at team reviews and external collaborations.
Qualifications
• PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or related field.
• 3–5 years of relevant experience in microbiome, metabolomics, or translational nutrition research.
• Proficiency in anaerobic culture, GC/MS/LC analysis, and sequencing workflows.
• Command of R, Python, or equivalent bioinformatics platforms.
• Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
Preferred Skills
• Background in human nutrition or microbiome clinical trials.
• Familiarity with multi-omics integration and shotgun metagenomics.
• Understanding of Indian regulatory frameworks (ICMR, FSSAI).
• Prior record of scientific publications or patents.
What We Offer
• The chance to define applied microbiome science in India.
• Collaborative research environment at Venture Centre, NCL Innovation Park.
• Mentorship and growth opportunities in a translational biotech startup.
• Competitive compensation and access to advanced R&D infrastructure.
